Housing association A2Dominion has donated £25,000 to The Trussell Trust, a charity which provides emergency food supplies to adults and children in the UK.

The funding will be used to support foodbanks in Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon, Westminster and Slough.

It will also help The Trussell Trust to train more volunteers to assist people in crisis.

The £25,000 was awarded through A2Dominion’s Charitable Donations Fund, which was set up in 2012. The Group also donated £12,500 to The Trussell Trust in 2013.

Darrell Mercer, A2Dominion Group Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to make this donation to continue supporting the hugely-valued work of staff and volunteers at The Trussell Trust’s foodbanks.

“As a housing association, we are committed to supporting the wider community, and through our Charitable Donations Fund we provide financial assistance each year to a range of charities that have links to the areas in which we operate.”

Helen Franks, Corporate Partnership Manager for The Trussell Trust, said: “The economic downturn has caused the number of people going hungry in the UK to grow significantly and social security issues remain the number one reason for foodbank use.

“Whilst the rate of new foodbanks opening has slowed, we are still seeing an increase in numbers helped by our services and almost 500,000 people were given emergency food in the first six months of this year. A2Dominion’s continued support helps us to prevent hunger in local communities.”

The Trussell Trust works with communities and churches to launch foodbanks that give a minimum of three days’ nutritionally balanced food to people in crisis across the UK.

As well as giving food, volunteers at the foodbanks provide a listening ear and signpost people to other services that can help resolve the cause of the crisis.
