Children & young people
We run a number of schemes for young people and children including the following:
Stars in our Yard
A six-week project involving our younger residents, which aimed to give young people a voice and create a sense of community by running local events such as football workshops and street dancing for a short period during the summer.
Youth Task Force
A group set up following ‘Stars in our Yard’ where young people aged 8-18 meet on a regular basis to give feedback on what matters to them, helping us shape our service.
Youth activities
We provide various different activities for young people at a neighbourhood level, including football sessions at Queen Charlottes and dance sessions in Sutton. We are also working in partnership with Cambridgeshire youth service to deliver summer youth activities in Fulbourn, Cambridgeshire.
Young Advisors
Young Advisors are young people aged between 15 and 21, who work with community leaders and decision makers to engage young people in community life, regeneration and renewal.
They are trained and employed consultants used by housing associations and other local partners to find out more about young people’s experiences of living, working and playing in their neighbourhood.
Junior Wardens
This scheme gives young people responsibility to look after the communities where they live. They are taught to report issues on their estates and visit local community services such as police stations, council offices and fire stations.
It is delivered in partnership with the Community Wardens and activities range from environmental tasks in the community to discussions and visits to the local fire station, dog warden and activities with the Neighbourhood Services Officers.
Partnership work
Partnership groups that support young people including; James Elliman School, Community Youth Wardens, Sure Start and Health Visiting Team.
Star Catchers
Starcatchers is a partnership based project focusing on providing performance arts activities and mentoring for social housing residents in Oxfordshire. A2Dominion delivers it in partnership with other local housing providers and a local college. The flagship event of this project is an annual talent competition. The project provides diversionary activities for young people, intergenerational activities, community cohesion and capacity building.
Sure Start Centres
We work in conjunction with Lanterns Centre in Winchester and Carroll Centre, supported housing scheme, to deliver a range of activity days, joint community afternoons, play schemes and housing drop in’s for local residents.
