We believe you should be able to live independently in your own home for as long as you want to and we aim to get any adaptations you need as quickly as possible.
If you or a member of your household has a disability or mobility problems, such as trouble walking, we will try to find help for you. This may include providing any adaptation you need.
What adaptations do we provide?
We provide a wide range of minor adaptations, for example:
- Widening doorways and installing ramps to make it easier to get in and out of or around your home
- Grab rails, which can be positioned wherever you feel they would be the most help
- Making it easier to go upstairs by installing an extra banister rail
- Lever taps to make using your kitchen or bathroom easier

Before we can help you, we may need to assess your needs. Unfortunately, we cannot fund all adaptations. You may need to obtain a disabled facilities grant from your local council. Please contact us for more information.
Will I be assessed?
We do not require an assessment for any minor adaptations.
For larger work such as a stairlifts, level access showers or over bath showers you will need to be assessed by an occupational therapist. Occupational therapists work with people who have a physical disability, a medical condition, a mental-health problem or a learning disability. They help people who have difficulties with practical every day tasks. The aim of occupational therapy is to allow you to live as independently as possible.

Home Improvement Agency
Home Improvement Agencies are non-profit organisations who help older, disabled, vunerable homeowners or private tenants to repair, maintain or adapt their homes.
We run a specific Home Improvement Agency for people living in the Spelthorne area.
This service, local to Spelthorne, can help you do the repairs, improvements and adaptations you want in your home. They may also be able to guide you through the whole process of making decisions, organising finance, as well as arranging and overseeing the building work and other technical matters.
