Long-term renters finally get on property ladder thanks to shared ownership

After renting for 11 years, Shraddha Pande and husband Vinod finally found themselves in a position to buy their first home thanks to A2Dominion New Homes’s part-buy, part-rent scheme.

The couple had always wanted to own their own place and after saving up for years they found they could afford the deposit required for a two-bedroom apartment at the Great West Quarter development in Brentford.

Shraddha, 35, who works in IT, explained: “We were previously renting in Hounslow and had wanted to buy somewhere for a while, but were never previously in a position to be able to do so.

“We looked at different properties for around a year before we came across Trico House. Although we did initially consider buying outright, shared ownership seemed like a better option for us as the deposit required was much lower.”

Shraddha and Vinod purchased a 40 per cent share of their £264,500 apartment for £105,800.

Shraddha said: “I’m very pleased with the flat so far. We’re not far from where we lived previously so we already know the area well, and despite being on a main road, the flat is very quiet.

“Our costs have increased as we’ve gone from a one-bed to a two-bed, but we knew what we were getting into and have since recommended shared ownership to friends.”
