Plans approved for over 250 new homes in Cranleigh, Surrey

24-Mar-2017

Residential property group A2Dominion has secured outline planning permission for over 250 homes in Cranleigh, near Guildford in Surrey.

Waverley Borough Council approved plans for 265 new homes at Knowle Park, including 35% affordable housing and 70% public open space.

Samuel Macdonald, A2Dominion’s Strategic Land Manager said:

“We are pleased to have been granted outline planning consent for this significant project.

“The scheme will bring high-quality sustainable homes including a high proportion of affordable housing to Cranleigh. It also provides the neighbourhood with a large public country park.

“We have worked collaboratively with the Borough Council to ensure that this development will meet the needs of the area.”

A2Dominion took over the project after previous applicant’s plans for the site were refused.

Since this time, Knowle Park has been allocated as a site for future housing development in Waverley Borough Council’s draft Local Plan.

A2Dominion also made a series of design refinements addressing the previous scheme’s reasons for rejection.

Key features of the scheme:

  • The scheme, on an 8.31ha site between Knowle Lane and Alfold Road, is set to include a range of one, two, three, four and five-bed homes, both affordable and private.
  • There will be car parking spaces for the new homes and up to 40 spaces will also be provided for visitors to the country park.
  • As part of the Section 106 agreement for the scheme, A2Dominion will contribute significant funding to benefit the local area and amenities.

This includes investment towards the Wey and Arun Canal Bridge Safety Improvement scheme and funding for Crainleigh Leisure Centre, Cranleigh Art Centre, and towards early years, primary and secondary education.

Waverley Borough Council granted outline planning permission at a meeting of its Joint Planning Committee on 15 March 2017.

Subject to the approval of a Reserved Matters application, work on the site is expected to start in 2018 or 2019.
