A2Dominion’s 2016 annual ‘Bike and Family Fun Day’ took place on Sunday 24 July at the Annex Field of Bicester Community College, attracting approximately 300 local residents and budding cyclists.

The event started with the ‘Tour de Bicester’ treasure hunt style family ride around the town, incorporating our new development at Elmsbrook, with a record breaking 130 participants. Participants claimed medals presented to them on a podium made from recycled pallets.

For another year, A2Dominion teamed up with not-for-profit Legacy Leisure of Bicester Leisure Centre who hosted Bicester’s Cycling Sportive on the day. Around 200 cyclists signed up to complete the 65 or 100 mile route. While, Bicester Millennium Cycle Club organised its thrilling and well attended cyclo-cross event again this year.

The day comprised of an action-packed programme, and included newly introduced activities such as a climbing wall, a penalty shoot-out, face painting, an inflatable activity centre, a Watt bike challenge and lots more.

Thames Valley Police were also on hand to provide advice to cyclists about bike security, and safeguarded over 50 bikes with its free anti-theft security marking and cycle registration scheme.

Commenting on the day, Louise Caves, A2Dominion’s Strategic Partnership Manager for NW Bicester, said:

“Once again this year’s event was a fantastic day and a great success in promoting cycling in the Town. The bike day is a real team effort and we are proud to organise such a fantastic partnership event in the town to celebrate Bicester’s community spirit and encourage residents to get out and about by bike.

“The day combines fun and competitions, along with support and guidance to make cycling in Bicester safe, accessible and fun for all. Promoting cycling in the Town as a sustainable mode of travel is paramount to us at NW Bicester.”

The event was organised by North West Bicester developer, A2Dominion, working in partnership with, Grassroots Bicester, Legacy Leisure at Bicester Leisure Centre, Bicester Millennium Cycle Club, Bioregional, Cherwell District Council, National Cycling Charity CTC, Earthline, and Bicester Green.
