Entrepreneurial residents secure £15,000 at A2Dominon’s annual ‘Dragons’ Den’

A2Dominion awarded five talented entrepreneurs a total of £15,000 at its annual Dragons’ Den-style event in March.

The entrepreneurs, all A2Dominion residents, received the grant funding to develop businesses within their local communities.

To secure the funding, the entrepreneurs had to pitch their business plans to A2Dominion’s panel of specially selected judges at the Deloitte Hub in Central London.

Best friends Chanelle Perrera and Zoe Cornibert, who secured £1,600 for their events business, said: “This is a huge step towards achieving our ambitions and it has given us a massive confidence boost as women in business.”

With the support of A2Dominion and under guidance from financial advisors at NatWest, the entrepreneurs had been working hard for six months developing and fine-tuning their business plans.

Other winners included:

  • Eulalia Seca, from Westminster, who was given £3,800 to fund her bi-lingual counselling service
  • Chadia Diallo, from Ealing, who was awarded £3,150 to set up Clever Tutors Ealing, which provides tuition to local children from low and middle income families
  • Kerry Hector, from Croydon, who was awarded £4,950 to deliver the Movie Mobil, a mobile cinema for young children from deprived backgrounds.
  • Lila Erazo, from Westminster, who was given £1,500 to fund her interpreting services, which will support Italian and Spanish speakers in London.

Kerry’s business, Movie Mobil, has gone on to enjoy even greater success, recently securing a £25,000 loan from Virgin and entering the Virgin Media Business VOOM competition for start-ups.

The judging panel at this year included Lorna Lucien, A2Dominion’s Director of Customer Services, and Simon Potts, Executive Director of Commercial Services.

Heather David, A2Dominion’s Head of Community Investment, said: “This is the fourth year of this hugely successful initiative, the opportunity to invest in the talent and innovation of our residents is invaluable.

“Each candidate massively impressed the judges with their passion and drive, and it was clear the businesses on show had the potential to make a positive contribution to their local communities.”
