Next stop Brentford for popular ‘careers on wheels’ advice service

careers coach The popular Careers Coach launched in Bell Square, Hounslow, in July 2015

A popular mobile careers coaching service in Hounslow will be taking to the streets of Brentford this year as part of a new partnership between Hounslow Borough Council and local housing association A2Dominion.

The council’s ‘Careers Coach’, a specialist roaming employment and training centre, has provided expert career advice to over 500 residents in Feltham and central Hounslow since July 2015. Over 30 of these people have moved into employment from the support they have received.

Following this success, the free service is now extending its route to Brentford where from Thursday 21 January 2016 it will make a monthly stop in the heart of A2Dominion’s Great West Quarter estate on Ealing Road.

The coach is dedicated to supporting the career development and prospects of local people across Hounslow and is equipped with nine computer stations to enable residents to work on their CVs or search for jobs.

It also has free internet access and private space for one-to-one advice, while specialist support is available for young people who want to find out more about apprenticeship opportunities in the area.

The drop-in service is available to any resident living in the borough, regardless of employment status or if they receive benefits.

Heather David, Head of Community Investment at A2Dominion, said: “The Careers Coach has been hugely successful in Feltham and central Hounslow over the past six months and there are enormous benefits in extending this service to Brentford, where we have over 750 residents.

“Over the next three years we will be targeting over 500 A2Dominion residents across west London with one-to-one support to find work and improve their career prospects.”

Councillor Sue Sampson, Hounslow Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “Since its launch the Careers Coach has given employment and training advice to hundreds of residents.

“Taking the Careers Coach to Brentford means we can grow on the good work that has already been done and help even more residents in the borough secure work or training.”

From 21 January 2016, the Careers Coach will stop on the last Thursday of every month at A2Dominion’s Great West Quarter estate on Ealing Road between midday and 4.30pm.

Leading recruiters and career experts Heathrow Academy, National Careers Service and the British Army will be in attendance at the first session in Brentford to officially launch the service in the area.

The coach will continue to make weekly visits to Bell Square in Hounslow on Mondays and The Centre car park in Feltham on Wednesdays, each from midday to 4.30pm.
