Talented art student to leave lasting legacy on new Hounslow scheme
A 15-year old student from Hounslow will have his work displayed on a major new housing development in the town centre after winning a school art competition run by developer A2Dominion.
Rahul Karavadra from The Heathland School submitted a winning design for a piece of public art which will decorate the front of A2Dominion’s forthcoming 127-home scheme on Bell Road.
A2Dominion invited the school’s art students aged between 14 and 18 to submit innovative ideas representing ‘energy’ and ‘sustainability’ for the new development, which has a number of green features.
Rahul, who has also won £500 in gift vouchers, will get to see his vibrant design professionally produced as a permanent feature of the new building when it is developed in 2017.
The teenager’s piece, which will stand at 4m by 12m, was chosen from 12 creative entries by a panel of judges.
Nicholas Yeeles, A2Dominion’s Executive Director (Commercial, London), who presented Rahul with his prize, said: “We are delighted to have held this competition to give talented young people the chance to leave a lasting legacy on a major new housing development in the borough.
“The students at The Heathland School all rose to the challenge and Rahul’s idea stood out from a number of fantastic entries.”
A2Dominion was granted planning permission in September to transform the disused Bell Road site.
Supporting the wider multi-million pound regeneration of the borough, the scheme will deliver a range of one, two and three-bedroom homes for sale and rent when it completes in Summer 2019.
The development is one of four current A2Dominion schemes in Hounslow providing a total of 470 high-quality new homes for the borough.
