Housing association A2Dominion has scooped an award for its work helping Westminster residents improve their health, fitness and wellbeing.

A2Dominion’s Beethoven Centre, in Queens Park, was named the winner of the ‘Physical Activity, Health and Wellbeing Award’ at the Active Westminster Awards, organised by Westminster City Council.

The Beethoven Centre offers a raft of activities for the entire local community, as well as information and advice services.

Activities include low-cost fitness classes, a subsidised crèche to make it easier for parents to get involved, a free walking group and a free Drop-in-to-Weigh-in’ service encouraging people to follow a healthy diet and lifestyle.

There is a regular ‘Greengrocer Service’, selling affordable fresh fruit and vegetables in the centre, as well as healthy snacks and organic dried food. The service made over 2,000 sales last year.

The Beethoven Centre also works with partners, such as local Community Champions, to teach cooking skills, give recipe advice and organise family activities.

Bassam Mahfouz, A2Dominion’s Beethoven Centre Manager, said: “We are delighted to have won this award in recognition of our work supporting the local community with health and wellbeing issues.

“The impressive results achieved by visitors to the Beethoven Centre’s Health Hub demonstrate that the centre is helping members of the community to be physically active, to eat more healthily and to consistently improve their overall wellbeing.

“We look forward to continuing to expand our services in the future.”

The Active Westminster Award winners were announced by special guest Paralympian Ade Adepitan on 29th November 2013 at Lords Cricket Ground.

Attracting over 500 nominations this year, the Active Westminster Awards 2013 were open to clubs, groups, schools and sports centres based in Westminster.
